Jane Addams -- founder of Hull House in Chicago (the first major settlement house in the United States) was the first American woman to receive Nobel Peace Price (in 1931). She was also a co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union. She was born September 6, 1890 and died in 1935. What a gutsy woman. Read more about her HERE.
