5-12-2011 Gov Mary Fallin Signs HB2131

This photo was taken last Thursday at the bill signing ceremony in the Governor's Large Conference Room at the Oklahoma State Capitol. The bill signed was House Speaker Kris Steele's bill HB2131 which will move Oklahoma toward incarcerating fewer people charged with non violent crimes. Others in the picture include House and Senate bill sponsors, Committee Chairs, plus Justin Jones, Director of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and a young woman who had been incarcerated and then went through the Women In Recovery program in Tulsa.  An very exciting day for our state. Lots of people were there who are members of the Oklahoma Women's Coalition which -- along with the George Kaiser Family Foundation, the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women, Oklahoma SIS, Resonance Center for Women, the Oklahoma Academy, Oklahoma Christian University, Count the Costs, and many others -- worked hard to advocate in favor of this bill this Legislative session. Yeah! Thumbs Up. As they say on Facebook, I "Like" it.   :-)
