Pew reports that 27% of children today are living apart from fathers

Call me old fashion, but I can't believe that this trend can be good for American society.

In 1960, the Pew Center reports, 11% of children lived apart from their fathers. I was one of them and it meant that I stood out as different - and not in a good way.

In 2010, 27% or more than 1 in every 4 kids do not have a father in the home.

I understand about getting away from abusive men yada yada, but still . . . I find these statistics very sad and worrisome.

What do you think?

  1. Very sad. Nobody can understand the toll this takes on families, including the men, unless they've lived through it. I hope you're doing well, Jean.

  2. I agree, Jen. One if four children in Oklahoma lives with a single mom. I find that very sad and troubling. Happily, a bunch of us are working with the Women's Foundation of Oklahoma to work on getting more low income single mothers in Oklahoma into and graduating from college. Thanks for leaving the comment. (Y'all, Jennifer has a great blog you should check out at http://www.jenx67.com/.)
